Denver Zoo History
The Denver Zoo has been educating its visitors about animals and conservation for over 100 years. The Zoo started with just a few animals, like monkeys, elk, bison, and birds, and has continued to grow over the years. In 1950, local citizens helped the Zoo with contributions to raise money for the first elephant to join the pack.
In the mid-1960s, the Feline House was created and became the new home to a few lions, tigers, and several other species. Throughout its entire history, the Denver Zoo’s mission has remained the same: Inspiring Communities to Save Wildlife for Future Generations.
