Winter Activities in Denver, CO
It’s no secret that the Mile High City’s mountains are found at the top of the charts for wintertime fun. But Denver has plenty of other activities in store that don’t require a set of skis underfoot. Check out five annual winter events and activities you won’t want to miss below!
Have a Cold One at Winter Brew Fest
Local beer lovers will enjoy raising a frosted glass at this year’s Denver Winter Brew Fest held on January 22 and 23, 2016, at Mile High Station. Your ticket includes unlimited sips of some of the best craft brews in town and a souvenir glass to commemorate the event. Bop along to live music with beverage in hand as the area’s top artists take the Mile High Station stage. VIP ticket buyers receive admittance to a special Cabot cheese sampling hour on both event days.
All proceeds go to the non-profit Swallow Hill Music organization that sponsors free lessons and concerts in the greater Denver area.
Go Ice Skating on Southwest Rink at Skyline Park
The Southwest Rink at Skyline Park is one of Denver’s most iconic outdoor skating spots. From November 24 through February 16, you and your fellow skaters can lace up and hit the ice for free (or just 2 bucks to rent a pair of skates). Whether you’re savvy to skating in figure eights or still figuring out how to stand on the ice, the Southwest Rink is a great place to get a winter workout and take in striking views of the Mile High City as you zip around the rink.
Warm Up Your Perspective at Denver Botanic Gardens
If you’re looking for a break from winter’s chill, a tour through the tropics at Denver Botanic Gardens will warm your spirits in no time. At the gardens’ York Street location, indoor waterfalls splash, fragrant flowers bloom, and exotic creatures thrive. Learn about plant species from around the world, snap some photos along the gardens’ edge, and think spring—or better yet, summer!
Attend Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks
Denver music buffs won’t want to miss Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks, an annual concert held at the renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre on January 29. Last year’s concert featured performances by Major Lazer and Damian Marley, and this year is anticipated to be just as huge. Attendees can also enter to win a four-day Denver winter fun package to share with friends leading up to the event known as Road to the Rocks 2016.
